One shared tourism experience
LIFT — Low-carbon InFinity Trail — brings together partners in Bulgaria and North Macedonia around a shared ambition: to make the region's natural and cultural heritage easier to discover through sustainable tourism. Cycling is at the heart of the concept, alongside local food, wine, heritage, lakes, mountains and places to stay.
A region to explore
The platform introduces Petrich, Sandanski and Strumyani in Bulgaria, and Strumica and Berovo in North Macedonia. Each offers a different starting point for a visit. Together, they show how outdoor experiences can connect with local communities and the wider tourism offer of the cross-border region.
More than a cycling route
The project combines tourism infrastructure and lower-emission visitor transport with research, training, community involvement and promotion. Its digital tools bring destination information, practical guidance, tourism experiences and the cycling application into one connected visitor journey.
European cooperation
LIFT is implemented under the Interreg VI-A IPA Bulgaria–North Macedonia Programme 2021–2027. The project reference is BGMK0200039, and the Municipality of Petrich is the lead partner. Six organisations contribute to the partnership.
